Stork Laser Engraved Anilox Rolls
Stork Anilox rolls represent the combined technology efforts from two Stork companies, one with
expertise in Flexographic printing - the other specialists in Laser Technology. Everything we use
to manufacture our product (technique, equipment, materials) is designed and formulated specifically
to produce the most consistent quality Anilox Roll possible.
Only Stork takes all these quality control steps to ensure absolute consistency and durability of
each roll from end to end:
Over a corrosive-resistant metal bond coat, we apply an extra heavy layer of our own, specially
formulated ceramic. Because this layer is over twice as thick as that of conventional ceramic rolls,
it is far more durable and less likely to chip or "pop off". We then precision grind and polish it
to a super smooth, uniform color ceramic surface - so that the laser always reads exactly the same
color and density. It's this painstaking preparation combined with our specially designed laser
equipment that enables us to engrave the roll with cells of uniform size, depth and placement
along the entire length of the roll- which is often a problem with other manufacturers.
Laser engraving always leaves a porous residue ("recast") around each cell. Unless this recast is
removed, the resulting surface is rough and porous, more abrasive and less durable- cell shape is
distorted and print quality suffers. That's why we completely polish off the recast down to the base
material on every Stork roll. Only then is the roll electronically scanned and documented for
accuracy.
The control and care we lavish on our Anilox Rolls enables us to routinely produce quality rolls of
super high line counts. Rolls with higher line provide more even distribution of ink without pull-back
or pin holing - and because the ink layer is smooth and uniform, it dries faster - so you can run
your equipment at top speed, even when laying high volumes of ink on hard to trap surfaces like
plastic films.
